VWP 052: The Party of Lincoln
Donald Trump has started talking about the Party of Lincoln and I’m on the Trump train and proud of it. That’s my huge confirmation bias. I don’t claim the party, but I claim the candidate. I want to see my country come first in all negotiations. And that has not been happening. That’s why the immigration policy is at the center of Trump’s platform. And next is trade. We need to make deals that are good for our country first. We can help out our neighbors sure, but not at the expense of the American people. And the people who have been hit the hardest are the struggling to find jobs in our nation’s largest cities. Like Detroit, my hometown.
I’m so proud to be an American when I hear Donald Trump speak. I hope that others across the country also begin to feel the power of America First. Taking care of the people of one’s nation is the number one job of a President. Ensuring their safety. That’s what a US President does. Congress makes the laws. And the Supreme Court upholds those laws. The President implements those laws. That’s why Donald Trump talks about “we are a nation of laws”. And he will be the law and order president. He actually knows what the job is. I think that is getting lost and I appreciate the opportunity to talk about it here in this format. Sometimes we expect the President to make all kinds of magic happen. But we have a 3-branch government and there is only so much that the president can do. Having said that, there is a great deal that a president can do. I believe Donald Trump has identified the specific job responsibilities and it responding quite well in his many interviews for the position.
So many people are holding their nose and saying they will vote for Hillary as a known liar and careless caretaker of the American people. This makes absolutely no sense to me. Some people say the known is better than the unknown. I have never found that to be true in my life. It is when I take a risk for a better future that I have made the greatest strides forward in my pursuit of happiness. And that is what this nation stands for. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
So many people today have lost hope in the ability to pursue their dream of happiness. I have real hope that Donald Trump can at least wake us up to the possibilities that still await those who are willing to fight for the country. So the party of Lincoln. The party of freeing people from slavery and uniting a divided country. Can we do it again like we did before? Believe it.
The quote for today’s podcast comes from Abraham Lincoln. It is the Gettysburg Address:
Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great civil war testing whether that nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated can long endure.
We are met on a great battlefield of that war.
We have come to dedicate a portion of that field as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live.
It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
But in a larger sense we cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate, we cannot hallow this ground.
The brave men living and dead who struggled here have consecrated it far above our poor power to add or detract.
The world will little note nor long remember what we say here but it can never forget what they did here.
It is for us the living rather to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.
It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us, that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion, that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation under god shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people by the people for the people shall not perish from the earth.
